I had to go to Chicago for a surgical meeting on April 3rd and then met Jen in Las Vegas (without the kids) on April 4th for a week long Medical Coding conference Jen had to attend. Adam Carney, a friend since high school, met us in Vegas. Everyone who knows Jen knows she never Skips Class so it was a mix of quality time with Jen and a Guy's Trip to Vegas. |
Adam and I rented motorcycles (Harley Davidson Softail) and did a 2 day, 600 mile trek, over the Hoover Dam to the South Ridge of the Grand Canyon. The trip was great and very challenging. The weather gets very cold (in April) and went down to 21 degrees over night, we stayed in a hotel, but the last hour of the drive to the canyon was 30 degrees with 30 mile an hour winds. |
I never had this on my lifetime to-do list, but it is a Must See; add it to your "Bucket List." These pictures will never do it justice. The South Ridge is 10 miles across and at least 60-80 miles in length. The canyon floor is 1 mile below, and you cannot even see the river. |
As most of my friends would predict, without "Adult Supervision" (Jen was at her conference), Adam and I misbehaved by climbing down and out on ridges that were not "really" meant for the public. Very beautiful and exciting with 30 mile an hour winds. |
Vegas was also great; went to most of the casinos, gambled very little and ate way too much. I think Jen was the Big Loser, donating about $40 to the casino; I lost $32.50. Not bad for spending a week in Vegas. We went to see Penn and Teller (funny magic act) our last night and managed to meet them after the show. FYI--- Teller talks! It was very strange talking to him. Great finish for a great week. |
